On April 20, 1970 Zodiac mailed a letter to the San Francisco Chronicle with a cipher containing his name. To date the cipher is officially unsolved.
I have found that the name "Henning Lagies" is a viable option for a name to be applied to this cipher. I am in no way a person who has any knowledge about cryptograms, and my method is unorthodox, but knowing what I know about this man for the 16 years that I knew him, and for the next 12 years everything that I have learned about him in hindsite, I realize that he may actually apply something so very basic and simplistic to the cipher and then sit back laughing at how everyone is trying to apply such complex technique to solving his name.
The name "Henning Lagies", is not something that ANYONE would have ever thought to apply to the cipher, and thus he was able to leave it in such plain sight, an indication of his narcicism.
One thing I can say is that the patterning for vowels and consonants is consistant and could be applied with the said letters. I have had someone expereienced at cryptograms tell me that indeed Henning's name could be applied to this. Anyone else out there experienced at cryptograms, please apply your knowledge keeping Henning's name in mind and put in a comment.

Okay, look. I'm going to take a crack at this. JUST A CRACK! Cryptology is kind of my thing and I've been formally trained. I was directed here by a friend to take a look at this. I'll be honest. I'm skeptical as hell, but I'll give it a shot.

All of this stuff may be coincidental, but one thing I know for certain is that this man is very evil, I truly believe he has killed many women in Canada and it is possible that just as the BC killer traveled about 1,000 miles up Highway of Tears, the same killer could have traveled that far south across the border to kill... He is a self proclaimed Genius, and perhaps this has been part of his genius, and how he has gone undetected....
ReplyDeleteOkay, here it is...WHAT the symbols mean is of little or no importance. I suspect, whoever created the cipher could have cared less what symbols he used. Hell, he could have used numbers or anything. But, here is the important part: The ratio of symbols to unique letters in Lagies name is exactly 1:1, or 1 to 1. What does that signify? Wellllllll, nothing really, other than it is a very odd coincidence. How odd? I've spoken to some statisticians (not my field) and they say, that while they can't give me an exact number they can tell me it's statistically significant. I've been crazy busy, but, I intend on dedicating more time to the 'problem'. Do you have an email I can reach you at, or do you prefer to use this means of communication?

So theororetically the key I have created which is unorthodox and not related to how you really solve a cryptogram could actually be releveant it seems.... that's what I mean, using a silly, childlike way of just twisting the strokes of the letters around to create a different letter actually works and could spell his name!
The patterning in the symbols is what is most significant I found to being able to match the whole name Henning Lagies. Like you said the ratio... I broke it out into vowels and consonants and there seemed to be a pattern that matched.
And it would be just like Henning to do something like this, and sit back laughing while everyone was working so intensely on solving it.... I have found other such evidence with the "True North" compass and Mt. Diablo that I am working on posting... it points right to the killer in Canada and not a bomb in the bay area. I think this was another wild goose chase that really, so very simply pointed to the killer living in Canada. I have had some technical difficulties with showing the compass on top of the map indicating what I am talking about, but I will get it... ANOTHER ODD COINCIDENCE!
As far as the possible Zodiac connection goes, if you haven’t already, try directly contacting the people over at zodiackiller.com (you can report a new suspect at http://www.zodiackiller.com/Suspect.html ) and zodiackillerfacts.com (you can post in the forum or can contact the owner of the site at info@zodiackillerfacts.com). The members at both these sites have done a lot of thorough research and have introduced some interesting new angles to the case. If you provide to them the evidence you have presented on this site (handwriting, similarities to the composite sketch, your solution to the cipher etc.), you could possibly spark some interest. Even if they shoot down the possibility that he is Zodiac, you may at least find some people willing to help you connect your suspect to the BC/ “Highway of Tears” murders or aid you in your mission to find justice for the crimes committed against your daughter. My heart aches for both you and your daughter. I hope that you two will eventually find peace and some closure to this horrifying chapter of your lives. Keep up the fight.

I sent an email to Tom Voigt, two actually and both times he was extremeley rude to me and told me to "Fuck off, you are a kook!", even when I sent him the composite. Another time I emailed Tom because I was on his site and he still had Arthur Leigh Allen listed as a suspect and so I thought for some reason maybe he wasn't aware that DNA cleared Allen, so I let him know and his reply was a sarcastic "No, really? Thanks!!!"
ReplyDeleteWho Tom portrays himself to be publically and how he has conducted himself privately when someone approaches with possibly viable information are complete opposites. I still have the emails from him being so incredibly rude to me.
I have posted at Zodiac Killer Facts, and was noted for having a new theory, but that is all. Honestly I cannot say whether Henning is indeed Zodiac, there are some pretty compelling circumstantial evidence, but may be only odd coincidences... I do however believe with every fibre of my being that Henning is the BC serial killer still at large and killing for 40 years. I believe this so much so, I would actually bet my life on it.
Bit, by bit I am making progress in bringing public awareness to the killings here and how it could be possible this same killer is Zodiac simply killing North of the border. In the beginning I was terribly slagged, called all kinds of names, a liar, dillusional, mocked and laughed at.... It was very difficult for me. Sometimes I felt like giving up, what was the point, but I truly believe that God gave me these challenges because he knew I would be the one to overcome and to fight and be the voice for the victims who can no longer speak...
1.5 years after regaining control of my life after living in darkness for so many years after finding out what happened to my child, I have finally made headway and begun to gain respect for truly being a victim; my daughter the true victim here. I have suffered, but not nearly as much as she, and the many other victims who have lost their life.
I will continue the fight, and I will never give up. I will be the voice for those who cannot speak, and I promise those families here in BC, that somehow, some way I will find some kind of answers, and I will not stop until I do.

Tom Voigt is just as much of an ego-maniac as the killer he's attached himself to. His evidence against Richard gaikowski is minor. But he would rather sweep real evidence under the rug than have to admit that he's not the only one capable of cracking this case.

ReplyDeleteI was finally contacted only last week from a family member of one of the missing from Hwy. of Tears, and that shows that although I get a lot of hits to my blog, in Canada, and to the families of victims, this story is still not heard.
Please share, and help spread the word... there are pictures on my blog of two wallets and a long trench coat that this man gave me that belonged previously to women... perhaps this is evidence. This dates back to 1997/1998 time frame... if you can help share this with families from that earlier time frames, pre 1999 then that would be a huge help.

It is very well likely that all the letters, or only some of the letters, or perhaps just certain references in various letters and/or ciphers could be hoaxes.... This is another theory I have had about Henning,... maybe just writing the letters and that is why handwriting appears to match. I am in no way someone who solves ciphers, but I did what I could with this one to just find patterns in consonants and vowels and simply rotate and shift letters around a bit and it actually works out to a viable solution. I am just saying here that Henning was the kind of person who would create something so blatently simple and then sit back laughing knowing that the FBI and all the experts were frantic and applying complex techniques trying to solve them.... I can totally see him doing that. As for the cipher it has 13 symbols which match exactly to how many characters are in the name "Henning Lagies"..... and "Zodiac Killer", if you take account the cross hair symbol in the cipher above is added at the end as part of his signature...

ReplyDeleteIf you extend a line from Mt Diablo, California, towards magnetic north (as it was in 1970) for about 850 miles. you pass pretty close to another Mt Diablo. This one is set in Valhalla Provincial Park, BC.
Zodiac indicated that his Mt Diablo "game" was concerned with radians and the # of inches along those radians. An article by Michael F. Cole got me thinking that Z may not have been using that word in it's strict sense.
The scale on the Phillips 66 map appears to me to have been one inch = 6.4 miles. If that is correct, this inumber of inches should be about 850/6.4, which I think comes out around 132 or 133. Possibly somebody might work out a similar number from the clues from murder sites etc., If somebody works out that logic, they would presumably be supporting this theory.
ReplyDeleteFurther to my comment about Z and mountains, the Lake Tahoe card references the Sierra Club. The Sierra Club was focused on outdoor life, including a focus on mountains. It was started in the 1800's in the Us, and seems to have grown to become a small political dynamo. It was headquartered in San Francisco. A Canadian chapter opened up in Canada in the early 60's. I suspect Z was referring to SC publications or lists in the Tahoe card. At any rate, I suspect his game was focused at least in part on mountains, by name. I wonder if he may have been a member of the Sierra Club himself.

ReplyDeleteHe says repeatedly, "This is the Zodiac speaking...". Is he really saying "This is the Zodiac's Peak..."? Is this a case of hiding in plain sight?
If so, that's very interesting for the hypothesis that Z had a Canadian connection, because, lo and behold, there is a Zodiac Mountain somewhat north of Mt Diablo, BC. And, while there are a few other sites in th US with names similar to Mt Diablo, there is only one Zodiac Mountain as far as I can see.
BTW, why did Z stop saying "This is Zodiac speaking.."? Could he have stopped when he thought he had given away enough clues to his location?
ReplyDeleteWell, as it happens, there are more clues. Some of the key ones that jump out at me are in the so-called "Halloween" card. Note that it's also a Cinderella costume ball card. But I prefer to think of it as the SCAR-I-BOO(M) card.
If we go back to Zodiac Mountain, and go a bit further north, we see the Cariboo Mountains. If you look at the card I am referring to, you will see a number of eyes. There were so many eyes, it seems Z was trying to tell us to look at the "eyes" and look at the "I" s. He had also written the word BOO! followed by the picture of the skeleton with arms outstretched to form an M with the exclamation mark. He is saying many things at once. BOO and BOOM for instance, but if you turn the exclamation mark upside down, it's also an "i". And the BOO! starts to look like 100. Where is 100 Mile House? S
Answer: 100 Mile House is in S. Cariboo!!
ReplyDeleteThink I'm wrong about Mount Cariboo? Perhaps, but what does peek-a-boo, suggest? Also, if you look at the eyes in the picture, it's uncanny how much they look like the letter C. If you look at the B in BOO!, you can see it is close enough to a "C" to form the word "BC".
For what it's worth, there is also a message saying "you are doomed". It so happens ther is a mountain called Doom in what province of Canada? You got it. BC!
If you spent some time looking at the Halloween/SCAR-I-BOO(M) card, you have probably noticed that funny mountain/rune symbol. Please give some thought to,the transposition between the Z and the N and how these letters relate to the symbol, when seen as a mountain. On the envelope, the Z is under the mountain (as I recall...I don't have the image in front of me). He appears to be referencing a Mount Zodiac, so this seems to support my theory. On the card the Z is sideways to look like an N layed out in such a way as to suggest that it would be north, which it is, relative to Mt Zodiac, BC.

I found a Herman Lake here in BC where victims were found over a 40 year period, but I was unaware of Mount Zodiac, or a Mt. Diablo, BC...
Maybe we can call it the Northern Mountain Travelogue theory for short.

If you have to choose a direction, why not choose "Norse" (North).
And where does it lead you? To Valhalla, of course.
And that is a kind of Paradise, for the Norse.
There are other references worthy of note, including the question of what Z had in mind if his game was finally found.
ReplyDeleteThis goes beyond the core of the NMT theory, but I wonder if his Mt Diablo game "revolved around" with other mountains named similarly to Mount Diablo: there are some in Nevada, Texas and southern California. If he assumed people understood the game, he might have been trying to spin them around with his clues, pointing N, E, W and S. He would have been like a weather vain. That would make him a little cock; a cockerel: what's the Greek word again? Koko something?
Things become much more intriguing when we start mixing the two contexts: the story of Z and your story.

Anyway as far as the freemason thing, Henning likely would have had these kind of skills. He was a Construction Engineer for the Canadian Department of National Defence, he has genius IQ, strong in ALL subjects and skills that meant he could build a whole house from scratch amogst other skills in contstruction/engineering. Thus I would imagine that masonary was indeed amongst his many skills.

ReplyDeleteI was watching something on a cold case channel, when I came across the case of the Zodiac killer. In every one of the Zodiacs notes he did mention an astrological sign-Sagittarius. Author Leigh Allen was born on December 18th. He is a Sagittarius. Same as the zodiac killer. Author had a watch. A name brand called the ZODIAC watches. As most of us know, the Zodiac killer sent us diagrams of bombs. Inside Authors' trailer, the police had found dead, dissected animals "thrown" into a freezer. Now, he had died in 1992. A red-headed woman had said her father is the zodiac killer but had died in 1993 of cancer. She is currently awaiting trial. Author had a blood-soaked shirt one night and a red stained knife. Lies. He didn't come home until 5:36 p.m. On the dot. He claimed he had come home at 8:43 take or add a few seconds. He claimed he was supposed to go to berryessa lake but instead went to a beach where he claimed he had "cut a chicken into pieces for a couple." 4:37 p.m. - the zodiac tied up mike and his partner. 4:53 p.m. - the zodiac stabbed mike and Darlene. It takes about 35 - 39 minutes to get home to the trailer park author lived in. Now the letter. I had estimated that there would be 3 cypher answers because the zodiac had written 3 letters with the same cypher. I then looked up to see if I was correct. I was. For my cyphers I am still working on, so far I have gotten "TRAIN BLOOD 813 OR A TRAIN BLOOD BLV. 81st 3rd street." A close street to where the Zodiac had lived and dumped a body near. I have also come up witH "WEED HEAD" Something aunt or had been doing. He had died of a heart attack for he had a failed heart 2 times due to his smoking. I do suspect Author leigh Allen. I could be wrong. But it's an opinion. Strange enough, I am only in 6th grade. My iq is above intelligent. I am in all the advanced classes as well as I am taking a detective course at my arts and acting school. If anyone has any questions please call me Jordyn Tracey. ReplyDeleteAuthor was long the prime suspect, however after he died they took a sample of his brain for DNA testing and his DNA and prints were excluded from the Zodaic evidence. Interestingly enough Henning also has molested children, hurt animals and had a lust for the bind and torture crimes.
My theory re Henning being the Zodiac Killer may only be conincidental, but it is rather strange conincidences if you ask me like the handwriting and the composites... still I recognize that they may all be coincidental, but I do however believe his is a killer her in British Columbia. Coincidentally most of the killings started here the same time Zodiac went out of sight in the US. If it is Hennning, he would have changed his MO or it would have been too obvious, thus discontinuing his taunting letters at least until 1992 when I believe he started posting the taunting bus stop letters. It is a subject that could be debated forever withou scientific proof, and I am hoping that my fundraising campaign will help to raise funds to complete some of these forensics which may prove he is a killer in BC and perhaps even the Zodiac Killer.... ya never know!

Well I don't really have any suggestions either. I sent a letter to the FBI in 2010 and 4 months later I got a "Not Read", receipt in my inbox confirming that they deleted it without ever opening it... NOBODY, really seems to care if you ask me.

All I can suggest is either write a book or post your details, like I have and ensure you claim your copyright.... You don't even have to register, just post like I have at the bottom of my blog that you own the copyright. It is covered under the "Berne Convention", countries all over the world have signed an agreement that if the author claims the copyright on their intellecutal material that it belongs to them, whether they register the copyright or not.

ReplyDeleteI solved the MY NAME IS cipher to my satisfaction. He made it more difficult than previous codes, using symbols for punctuation as well as letters.
ReplyDeleteBut the solution is unfulfilling , merely a taunt......Which is predictable in hindsight I suppose.
